Our Mission

To empower the people of Nicollet County to prevent and reduce substance use among youth by shifting culture to create a healthier community.

Who We Are

ACWA was established in 2019, when a small group of concerned parents, law enforcement, faith leaders, mental health professionals, educators, and community leaders came together to address the issue of increased use of substances in Nicollet County schools. The community subsequently formed a grass-roots coalition to understand and develop interventions to prevent underage substance use. ACWA continues to discover new ways to provide a healthy environment for youth to make healthy and positive choices. ACWA will receive about $117,000 annually through a grant from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy to reduce and prevent local youth substance misuse through a variety of strategies.

The coalition has representation from many community partners including St. Peter Public Schools, River’s Edge Hospital, Nicollet County Attorney’s Office, Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office, Nicollet County Community Corrections, Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP), Counseling Services of Southern Minnesota, Nicollet County Health and Human Services, North Mankato Police Department, Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Gustavus Adolphus College, etc.
